Field Marshal Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener, KG, KP, GCB, OM, GCSI, GCMG, GCIE, ADC, PC was famous for his glorious moustache which he grew after losing a bet with the Duke of Cambridge in the officer's mess one night. Kitchener went on to fight many of Queen Victoria's little wars, winning one after the other but Kitchener lived with a terrible secret - he suffered a severe and irrational fear of spinach. Just looking at spinach made him nauseous and the smell of cooked spinach could lay him up for days. You won't read about this in the history books because the War Office went to great lengths to hide his phobia from the official records (imagine if the enemy found out) but I swear it's true.
