Kaiser Willhem was a funny bugger, apart from wearing a bird on his head, (inspiring Johnny Depp's portrayal of Tonto in the latest film adaption of The Lone Ranger) he also thought that it would be a good idea to start a war against the combined might of Russia, France and England.
When asked what he hoped to gain and how he thought Germany might win the war, he started ranting about the superiority of German moustaches pointing out that while Lord Kitchener sported a fine and luxurious moustache, most Englishmen weren't very good at growing them while Russian know-how seemed limited to unruly beards and the French only ever grew 'dainty' moustaches which left observers wondering whether they had forgotten to shave.
He was quoted as saying "moustaches win wars dummkopf" and went on to elaborate that only a fine, well oiled or waxed and precisely curled Prussian moustache would win this one.
